Some facts, Busselton Water:
  • Is licensed to extract groundwater from two underground aquifers, the Yarragadee and  the Leederville.
  • Has eight deep artesian bores that vary in depth from 250m to 800m.
  • From 1997 to 2011 an ultraviolet disinfection process (UV), with spot chlorination, was used prior to full-time chlorination being introduced as the result of a growing reticulation network.
  • Has 4 water treatment plants that house five water storage tanks.   These tanks have a total storage capacity of 20,600 kl or in excess of 8 Olympic size swimming pools.
  • Has 281km of water main within its water distribution network.
Source Water Quality
  • Source water is treated (aerated and filtered) to remove iron so it complies with aesthetic related requirements of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
  • Water extracted meets all Australian Drinking Water Guidelines for health related chemical limits.
Treated Water Quality
  • Treated water delivered to customers meets all Australian Drinking Water Guidelines for health related chemical and aesthetic related limits.
  • Busselton Water does not fluoridate its water supply, however the treated water does have naturally occurring fluoride.
Note:  It is important that customers do not connect pumps or other equipment to the water supply, as this can create a situation that could have the potential to contaminate the town’s water supply.
